Reindorfgasse 9/2/R01 A-1150 Wien
Behind the counters and on the tables, there it bubbles, there it flows into the gullet, no water - no! - liquor, beer and wine! Jesus is long gone, made from wood on the cross you can see him, but not from flesh and no blood, no one makes us the wine from water, because fresh water we have none.
It brews in the stomachs and also in the heads. Culture sparks, boils and thrives, between the benches and inside the rooms. The first workers' educational association of the former monarchy was founded in the beer hall of the Fünfhaus brewery. The female workers founded their educational association in the Gasthaus Engel, right next to the Jewish temple. Schwender Colosseum stands where Reindorfgasse and Schwendergasse meet today. Within a few years, a converted cowshed became the city's most famous concert, theater and entertainment establishment, with room for thousands of visitors. In the place where the young sprouts of culture show their blossoms again 150 years later, well watered, but not drunk.
The great inns of yesteryear, the vineyards, they are all already history and only the coat of arms of the district reminds in subtle allusions of the time when the stream of workers and new citizens made the young district burst.
